Octavia M Sheffner’s new neo-detritus release 419 Tulip Ave is electric, to say the absolute least. Opener “D.R.E.C.K.”, presented here in both its stripped down radio edit and its full 18-minute album version, begins almost in medias res, slowly snowballing into itself through corrupted beats and into the deep ocean grooves of “The Boring Billion Relived”. Beautiful guitar-driven closer “A Sapient Minefield…” rounds out one of the most varied and incredible records of 2023, another home run in Octavia’s discography. Put simply: holy shit!
